Saturday – Intuition and emotion
Slept much better but had a lot of weird dreams. My intuition has kicked in and I’m picking up on the energy of the others. A woman I thought looked uncomfortable and separate from the rest of us left at lunchtime. Another woman seems angry and aggressive.

Friday – A good start
Had trouble sleeping last night probably due to the unfamiliar surroundings and excitement. I was the first one in the meditation hall this morning and tried to do a few stretches before we began. The meditations all went well and so far so good with the silence. A third of the attendees are friends and I thought that would make it very weird but apart from a few awkward moments at breakfast we all ignore each other beautifully. Avoiding eye contact definitely makes it easier. What I am finding difficult however, is not sharing observations.

Imagine spending four days on a mountain with 18 others in the pouring rain in SILENCE!!!
Well that’s what I just did at a meditation and yoga retreat at Springbrook, in the Gold Coast hinterland. Wow, what an amazing experience.
So, what was it like to be quiet for so long and devote every day fully to meditation and yoga?
Over the next week or so I’m going to try and express my experiences through a series of excerpts from the diary I kept.

What I bought today
A little spiritual journey I try and take every week is to my local organic market. The Northey Street Markets are tucked away beside a creek next to the Northey Street City Farm, on Brisbane’s northside. Today the air was fresh and chill, a perfect early winter Brisbane day. The beanies, scarves and ugh boots are starting to come out now and people watching is fun. Northey Street is a real gem with stalls spread out under beautiful shade trees and lots of greenery. There’s space to move here not like some of the more commercial markets around town. (more…)

It was a scorching Bangkok afternoon and a visit to the Grand Palace was fraying my nerves and frizzing my hair. Under an oppressive pale sky, streams of tourists and frantic tour guides thronged the ornate complex of mirror-tiled buildings and gargantuan temple guardians.
